Yesterday morning, I attended my very first coffee morning with the American Women’s Club of Dublin. I’ve met quite a few people since I’ve gotten here, whether it is a coworker of Matt’s, a girlfriend or wife of said coworker, or just someone I’ve met at a pub or out and about. This coffee morning, however, was a chance to meet some women from different parts of America, who had relocated to Dublin at some point in their life.
“The American Women’s Club of Dublin is a non-profit organization established in 1972 to assist women with their transition to their new home in Ireland” (awcd.net). I was so excited to stumble across this organization, because they do everything from philanthropic events, hill-walks, book clubs, coffee mornings, bridge club, supper club, and so much more. They also offer a Professional Women’s Network, hosting speakers from Dublin, and helping girls like myself find employment.
The coffee morning was held at Anne’s home, the president of the organization. To say she was welcoming is an understatement. She went out of her way to introduce me to just about every woman in attendance. I met women from New Jersey, California, New Mexico, Canada and of course, Dallas, Texas! Two and half hours and three cups of coffee later, I had many wonderful conversations, including where to get my hair done, and who gives the cheapest pedicures. I was informed about the activities the club offers, and I exchanged contact information with a few that I look forward to meeting up with in the future.
